Year 13 students from the GSK-sponsored Sir Charles Kao University Technical College in Harlow spent a day at the Sir David Jack R&D Centre, GSK, Ware on December 13th.

In the morning, the students had a series of talks from GSK staff on device engineering, quality management and assurance in the pharmaceutical industry, and the legal and regulatory framework for health and safety in the workplace. In the afternoon, they had tours of engineering testing laboratories and the manufacturing pilot plant.

The event was organised by Dr Paul Westlake, who is Chair of the UTC’s Board of Governors. Dr Westlake said “Active involvement of industrial sponsors is a key part of the UTC value proposition: curriculum enrichment activities such as this engineering day are just one aspect of that. I was pleased to welcome Year 13 to GSK Ware and was very impressed with their engagement and the quality of the questions that they asked.”
