After four years establishing Sir Charles Kao UTC, current Principal Michael McKeaveney will be standing down as of 31st August 2017.

Michael joined Sir Charles Kao UTC in November 2013, and quickly established it as Harlow’s hub for careers in science, computer science and engineering. He will be returning to work in London as an Assistant Director of Education.

He said:

“It’s been an enormous pleasure to work with the young people and businesses in Harlow for the last few years and I will miss working with so many students with skills and aptitude in the STEM field.

As an institution that prides itself in providing an innovative and dynamic education, it is time for someone else to take the helm in providing a future for the future engineers, scientists and computer scientists of the town.”

Chair of Sir Charles Kao UTC’s Governing Body, Dr Paul Westlake said

“Michael has done a superlative job establishing the UTC and putting it on a sustainable footing. He has built excellent relationships with local employers, which has resulted in an extensive programme of internships for UTC students. He has also delivered excellent outcomes for students who have gone on to university, apprenticeships and employment.

“I’ll be sorry to see Michael go but his new position is a fantastic opportunity and I wish him well in the next stage of his career. A successor will be appointed in due course”
